Potato Dextrose Agar w/ Chloramphenicol Potato Dextrose Agar is recommended for the general-purpose cultivation and isolation of yeasts and molds from foods, dairy and cosmetics. The nutritionally rich base provided by Potato Infusion and Dextrose encourages mold sporulation and pigment production in some fungi. Lowering the pH to 3.5 ± 0.1 inhibits bacterial growth and aids in the isolation of fungi. Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that suppresses the growth of several species including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
