What is the difference between latex and nitrile gloves?
Latex gloves are made from the sap of rubber trees and have become a standard for medical and industrial use. The material is form fitting and provides great finger dexterity. Nitrile gloves were created due to the potential allergic reaction to the raw latex material. Although they are not as form fitting as latex, nitrile offers greater puncture resistance and can be worn for longer periods.
Yes. These gloves are manufactured from Acrylonitrile Butadiene rubber, nitrile for short. Nitrile is a special polymer that contains no natural rubber-proteins. It resists a wider range of chemicals than natural rubber latex or vinyl and provides better resistance to punctures, cuts, snags and abrasions.
A biodegradable additive must be incorporated into the nitrile formula for the glove to biodegrade. This additive is activated in the landfill where it attracts microorganisms to consume and metabilize the glove into natural components. Our T-GEN gloves (Cat # 44-106S, 44-106M, and 44-106L) are the biodegradble nitrile glove option for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
